Babe Zaharias Golf Course will be closed to the public on July 22, 2009 as trained professionals inject a non-hazardous soil fumigant designed to eliminate parasitic nematodes that are eating and destroying the roots of the grass. The facility will close for all use during and 24 hours following the injection, and signs will be posted around the course and clubhouse. Located just 20 minutes from downtown in the Forest Hills section of Tampa, "The Babe" meanders through a tree-lined residential neighborhood.
The course measures a modest 6,244 yards, but should not be taken lightly. Although both nines are par-35, the back side sports four par-4s in excess of 400 yards, providing a challenge for golfers of all skill levels.
